Direct answer

Captioq is a free, browser-based screen recorder that captures your screen, camera, microphone, and available system audio without requiring an account. Recording and editing happen locally on your device; Captioq does not upload recording media to its PHP server. For best results, use a recent Chromium browser over HTTPS or localhost.

Product guide

Clear answers about Captioq

Concise, verifiable information about how the current release works.

What is Captioq?

Captioq is a bilingual, browser-based recording studio. It uses browser media APIs to capture a tab, window, or display, optionally combines a camera overlay and microphone, then previews, annotates, trims, and exports the result on the user’s device.

Does Captioq need an account?

No account is required by the current recorder. A user opens the page, grants browser permissions, chooses what to share, and records. The separate administrator login manages website configuration only and is not a recorder account.

Does Captioq upload recordings?

Captioq does not send screen, camera, microphone, or system-audio recording data to its PHP backend. Media remains in browser memory or, when supported and selected, is written directly to a local file. A file leaves the device only when the user chooses another service.

Which browsers are supported?

Captioq targets recent Chromium-based browsers: Google Chrome, Microsoft Edge, Brave, and Opera. It requires a secure context (HTTPS) or localhost plus support for getDisplayMedia, getUserMedia, MediaRecorder, and canvas capture. Exact audio and file-writing capabilities vary by platform.

FAQ

Frequently asked questions about Captioq

Is Captioq free?

Yes. The current Captioq application contains no checkout, paid plan, or recording paywall. Hosting operators can change their commercial offering later, so this statement should be reviewed whenever pricing or access rules change.

Does Captioq require an account?

No account is required by the current recorder. A user opens the page, grants browser permissions, chooses what to share, and records. The separate administrator login manages website configuration only and is not a recorder account.

Does Captioq upload my recordings?

Captioq does not send screen, camera, microphone, or system-audio recording data to its PHP backend. Media remains in browser memory or, when supported and selected, is written directly to a local file. A file leaves the device only when the user chooses another service.

Can Captioq record screen and camera together?

After Start recording is selected, the browser’s screen-sharing picker asks for a tab, window, or display. If camera capture is enabled, Captioq requests camera permission and composites the camera as a movable overlay on the captured screen before recording the combined canvas stream.
